Ian Spooner (P. Geo, Ph.D.) is the King Chair in Geoscience in the Earth and Environmental Science Department at Acadia University. He is a NSERC funded researcher who has supervised over 80 graduate and undergraduate students to date and has published more than 100 refereed papers and technical reports.  His primary research interest is investigating human and climate related environmental impacts in Nova Scotia, British Columbia and Newfoundland.  He is Past Director of Research (2025) at the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre and has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Atlantic Geoscience Society and the Acadia Alumni Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching.  In 2022 he, along with his co-authors, received the Donald Stanley Award for the best paper in environmental engineering from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering.
